This 2-CD set is a compilation of three previous Arc releases: Cheng Yu: Classical Chinese Pipa (EUCD 1176), Li He: Chinese Classical Folk Music featuring the Chinese Flute (EUCD/MC 1155), and Chen Dacan Chinese Ensemble: Chinese Folk Music (EUCD 1167). Cheng Yu plays pipa and guoqin on her tracks, Chen Dacan plays erhu on his, and Li He plays the Chinese bamboo flute and bawu. I got this CD, which (curiously) is produced by Hossam Ramzy, after hearing Chen Dacan’s “Sai Ma” (track #4), with its fiddle/dulcimer combination that reminded me so much of Appalachian folk music using American equivalents of those instruments.
