As with Air’s Moon Safari, this is an interesting appropriation of a variety of 1970s electronica clichés…whether it’s inspired or merely mercenary is debatable, but that it’s appropriation is unmistakably true. I’ve chosen to leave the issue as moot and enjoy some tracks on each of these two albums on the basis of their conveyed impressions.

Personally I enjoy “Cherry Blossom Girl,” although it truly does sound like a wholesale ripoff Claudine Longet ripoff. “Surfing on a Rocket,” however, I find intensely annoying, a musical cul-de-sac.
